Dr. Michele Bailo is a Neurosurgeon and Gamma Knife Radiosurgeon at the Neurosurgery Unit of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, under the leadership of Professor Pietro Mortini.

He graduated with honors in Medicine from the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele of Milan in 2011, followed by a specialization in Neurosurgery in 2018, also with honors, at the same institution. In 2022, he completed his academic journey by obtaining a Ph.D. in Neurosciences, again with honors, from the International School of Doctorate in Molecular Medicine at the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele. His doctoral thesis focused on the validation of advanced radiological imaging in the treatment of brain tumors. Additionally, Dr. Bailo pursued research fellowships at George Washington University in 2014 and 2017 and earned a diploma from the Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Icon Course at the University of Marseille, France, in 2019.

Since 2011, Dr. Bailo has been actively involved in clinical work at the Neurosurgery Unit. He has participated in over 1,600 neurosurgical procedures, addressing both cerebral (tumors, trauma, hemorrhages, hydrocephalus) and spinal (disc herniations, stenosis, instability, tumors) conditions, and has carried out more than 600 Gamma Knife Radiosurgery treatments.

Dr. Bailo is deeply committed to scientific research, contributing to numerous clinical and preclinical projects aimed at better understanding the nature of brain tumors (including gliomas, meningiomas, schwannomas, lymphomas, and metastases) and developing innovative surgical techniques. He has pioneered three-dimensional planning strategies in surgery to maximize procedural benefits while minimizing invasiveness and patient risk.

He is the author of over 65 scientific publications in indexed international journals and chapters in neurosurgery books published by international publishing houses. His current H-index is 11 (according to Scopus). In 2019, he co-authored a book on surgical techniques titled "Operative Cranial Neurosurgical Anatomy." Dr. Bailo regularly participates in national and international conferences in his field.
