Tommaso Sciortino
Biography
Dr. Tommaso Sciortino is a neurosurgeon in the Neuro-Oncological Surgery team at IRCCS Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant’Ambrogio.
He graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in 2015, and in 2021, he specialized in Neurosurgery at the University of Milan, also with honors.
From November 2016 to January 2020, Dr. Sciortino worked in the Neuro-Oncological Surgery Unit at Humanitas Research Hospital. In 2020, he served at the Neurosurgery Unit of IRCCS Policlinico di Milano. Since September 2020, he has been part of the Neuro-Oncological Surgery team, led by Prof. Lorenzo Bello. During his training, he participated as a speaker in numerous neurosurgical and neuro-oncological conferences.
His surgical practice primarily focuses on the treatment of brain tumors (gliomas, metastases, meningiomas, lymphomas, cavernous angiomas) using advanced techniques for intraoperative brain mapping and monitoring, both under general anesthesia and in awake surgery.
Dr. Sciortino also has experience in treating cerebrospinal fluid dynamics disorders (such as hydrocephalus and idiopathic intracranial hypertension), performing frameless stereotactic biopsies, and diagnosing and treating degenerative spine conditions (disc herniation, spinal canal stenosis, spondylolisthesis).
His research is focused on improving brain function mapping techniques, particularly for motor and higher cognitive functions, and enhancing both functional and oncological outcomes for patients undergoing glioma surgery.
Dr. Sciortino has authored 25 peer-reviewed publications in international scientific journals.
