Giuseppe Maria Marinari
السيرة الذاتية
Dr. Giuseppe Maria Marinari is a General and Bariatric Surgeon, and Consultant in General and Bariatric Surgery at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato.
He graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery in 1986 from the University of Genoa, where he later specialized in General Surgery in 1991 and in Food Science with a focus on Dietetics in 1995.
After graduation, Dr. Marinari briefly worked at the transplant center (liver – pancreas – kidney) in Genoa. At the end of 1987, he began his experience in bariatric surgery as a student of Professor Nicola Scopinaro, with whom he collaborated until 2010. During those years, he learned to perform and manage all traditional obesity surgery procedures – adjustable gastric banding, vertical gastroplasty, gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy – and, of course, biliopancreatic diversion, a procedure developed by Professor Scopinaro in 1976 and widely used in Genoa.
Key moments in his professional growth were his experiences abroad: in 1989 and 1990 at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, studying obesity and body composition; in 2000 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York to learn the laparoscopic technique for biliopancreatic diversion; in 2002 at the Centro Mineiro de Gastroplastia Avançada in Belo Horizonte, Brazil; in 2007 at the Center for Laparoscopic Obesity Surgery at St. Blasius Hospital in Dendermonde, Belgium; and in 2012, the Fast Track Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery course at Aleris Hospital in Oslo, Norway.
Dr. Marinari has dedicated his professional life to the study and treatment of obesity. His primary interest began with the study of body composition, thanks to his time in Sweden. He later focused on refining surgical techniques and then on developing care pathways that made bariatric surgery as gentle and safe as possible.
Dr. Giuseppe Marinari is the author or co-author of 85 peer-reviewed articles (Marinari, G. M. – Author details – Scopus Preview, 1989–2024), with an h-index of 29.
