In 2009, he graduated in Medicine and Surgery from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, where he also completed his specialization in General Surgery in 2016.
In 2018, he earned a Master of Science in Experimental Surgery from McGill University in Montreal and, in the same year, participated in a Fellowship in Advanced Gastrointestinal Minimally Invasive Surgery at the McGill University Health Centre, Montreal.
He primarily focuses on the surgical treatment of pancreatic, ampullary, and duodenal tumors and inflammatory diseases, employing both traditional and minimally invasive approaches. He is an expert in laparoscopic and open surgery for the treatment of gallbladder diseases and abdominal wall hernias (inguinal, umbilical, and incisional hernias). Additionally, he works in the Emergency Department of San Raffaele Hospital as a lead surgeon on duty, handling urgent surgical cases such as trauma, bowel obstruction and perforation, acute appendicitis, and acute cholecystitis.
Dr. Pecorelli is also responsible for perioperative pathways and the preparation of surgical candidates within the Pancreatic Surgery Unit, with particular attention to patients' nutritional and functional status.
His clinical research interests are focused on pancreatic surgery, the implementation of perioperative pathways to enhance patient recovery, and minimally invasive surgery. In recent years, he has concentrated on preoperative risk stratification by assessing patients' nutritional and functional status, and on post-operative outcomes, particularly the quality of life of surgical patients.
His scientific output includes over 100 publications in specialized journals and 5 book chapters, with an h-index of 28. He has received several awards for the best scientific article at international surgical meetings.
Currently, he is the principal investigator of a randomized controlled trial funded by the Ministry of Health. He coordinates a multidisciplinary team of doctors, physiotherapists, and nutritionists evaluating the impact of multimodal prehabilitation (preoperative physical, nutritional, and psychological interventions) on surgical outcomes and the functional recovery of patients undergoing pancreatic cancer surgery.
