Giovanni Monizzi

Dr. Giovanni Monizzi is a Cardiologist at the University Cardiology and Cardiac Imaging Unit of IRCCS Galeazzi-Sant’Ambrogio Hospital. He also collaborates with Smart Clinic.  

He graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan in 2015 and completed his specialization in Cardiovascular Diseases with honors in 2020 at the same institution.  

Dr. Monizzi trained with one of the leading international teams specializing in the treatment of coronary atherosclerosis, angina pectoris, and structural heart diseases, including aortic and mitral valve disease and patent foramen ovale, at Centro Cardiologico Monzino in Milan.  

During his specialist training, he gained experience in major international centers for invasive cardiology. Notably, he undertook advanced training in Belgium, focusing on the study and development of innovative intravascular and non-invasive imaging techniques and a comprehensive evaluation of coronary physiology.  

He is the coordinator for interventional cardiology and structural and valvular programs at the hemodynamics laboratory within the university cardiology department.  

His work includes outpatient management and follow-up care, with a primary focus on interventional cardiology and hemodynamics. He specializes in treating complex coronary artery disease (CHIP), multivessel coronary artery disease (CTO), structural and valvular heart diseases such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI), mitral and tricuspid valve repair (MitraClip and TriClip), as well as procedures like patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure, left atrial appendage closure, and endomyocardial biopsy.  

Dr. Monizzi's research focuses on intravascular imaging (OCT and IVUS) in stable coronary artery disease and acute coronary syndromes, as well as improving functional and clinical outcomes for patients with coronary artery disease and angina pectoris with non-obstructive coronary arteries (INOCA and MINOCA).  

He is actively involved in numerous international studies and registries on minimally invasive treatments for valvular diseases, including TAVI and MitraClip procedures.
